Raquel Algaba (Madrid, 1992) develops an interdisciplinary practice spanning sculpture, drawing and painting, exploring mythology, memory and identity through a symbolic and material approach. Her work is situated within a territory of hybrid references, that allows the artist to construct visual narratives in which the body becomes a site of vulnerability and change. Recurring motifs such as the lotus function as symbols of regeneration, seduction and ambiguity, oscillating between spiritual elevation and sensory suspension. Algaba develops environments that offer a poetic reflection on transformation, displacement and the persistence of myth in contemporary sensibility.
Her work has been showcased in exhibitions at institutions such as the CAAC Andalucian Center for Contemporary Art (Sevilla), Real Fábrica de Artillería (Sevilla), C3A Contemporary Art Center of Andalucía (Córdoba), or Kultur Palais (Lichtenstein), among others. She has received numerous awards and recognitions, such as the Iniciarte Program Award (2024), the Begehungen Festival Prize (2023), and several acquisition prizes.
As a curator, she has developed projects at La Casa Encendida, Madrid’s Sala de Arte Joven, Casa Palacio de los Morlanes, the C.A.V. La Neomudéjar Museum in Madrid, and the Barjola Museum in Gijón.
